Exterior of case is fine with some scratches and marks in its original finish, top is somewhat sunbleached. Bore is bright and shiny with a few scattered minor pits. Walnut grip retains over 90% of its original varnish with light marks and scratches. Grip straps retain over 90% of their original silver plating with hand worn brightness and attractive toning where protected. Cylinder retains more than half of its original blue. Frame, loading leader & hammer retains nearly all of its originally very light case hardening color with only some minor loss on sharp edges. Barrel retaining approximately 80% original blue with most loss due to flaking and thinning at midpoint of barrel. There are 2 covered compartments, covers with bone knobs 1 holding some cast balls and bullets, the other a tin of Eley Bros. Bottom compartment is French fitted for pistol, blued combination nipple wrench & turn screw, "COLTS PATENT" marked brass ball and conical 2 cavity bullet mold, and copper bodied brass mounted flask of shouldered design with top compartment for powder and other compartments in bottom for caps and balls. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistol is housed in what appears to be its original rosewood case with modified rectangular flat brass medallion in lid having key lock closure. Hammer is engraved with his distinctive wolf's head.
Revolver is engraved with near full coverage large open shaded scroll in the style of and most likely done by Gustave Young, noted Colt engraver. Trigger guard and backstrap are silver plated. Blued cylinder with matching number is rolled with classic stagecoach scene, remnants of caliber marking are on left side of small trigger guard. Case hardened action is engraved "COLTS PATENT" on left side. The 5" blued octagon barrel is engraved "Saml Colt" on top flat and has loading lever affixed to bottom.
